Hi! My name is James Cook. I am a graduate student in pure mathematics at the University of Illinois Chicago, and my goal is to teach undergraduate math as a career. Previously I attended Baruch College where I graduated summa cum laude in 2024 with a BA in mathematics and a minor in computer science.

So far the courses I have taught are:
MATH 105: Mathematical Reasoning (at UIC), Fall 2026
MTH 1030: College Algebra (at Baruch College), Fall 2023

I am also interested in multiple areas of research mathematics. Much of my graduate study so far has been in logic (descriptive set theory, complexity theory, computability, model theory). I enjoy learning about correspondences between different notions of complexity (for example topological complexity and its relationships to computational complexity). Aside from logic, I have a longstanding fondness for general topology and analysis, especially real analysis. I have also recently become interested in geometric group theory.
